Introductory course on Nonlinear Dynamics, Chaos Theory and Complex Systems

Nonlinear dynamics and chaos in this course is a basic course for first-year undergraduate students majoring in science and engineering as well as graduate students who begin to engage in research in this field. The main content of this course is extensive use of computing tools, Internet and laboratory experiments. Although their previous background in physics and mathematics may be limited, our experience shows that with the use of some conceptual introductory ideas and multimedia technology content, appropriate selection is a good way to introduce nonlinear dynamics and chaos to undergraduate and graduate students. The syllabus is as follows:

ntroduction to nonlinear dynamics, chaos and complexity

One dimensional and two dimensional mapping

Power system: Bifurcation and stability

Chaotic dynamical system

Fractal and fractal dimension

Hamiltonian chaos

Introduction to nonlinear time series

Introduction to complexity

Some applications and research topics of nonlinear dynamics, chaos theory and complex systems
